Why is it?

I get into big trouble with my wife if I am insensitive enough not to want to watch what she has chosen on TV. If I come home and she has Judge Judy on the tube, I'm not very interested. She seems to revel in seeing other peoples misery and bad behavior. I usually want to pass on that and go in to the bedroom to watch sports or Stargate SG1 or something of a more manly nature. If I do that, I'm being bad. I'm not giving her enough attention- according to her. But just come over to our house on a Thursday night and try to tune the telly to anything other than Survivor, and you'll lose a limb. Why is it that I'm bad for wanting to watch an NBA game, but she's perfectly entitled to catch every moment of Survivor without even acnowledging that I'm still breathing? Is this something that is unique to my home or do some of you other men get the same problem? Am I a bad person for not being a fan of all the judge shows, Survivor, The Apprentice and all these other "people shows"? I don't force her to watch Baseball- why should I watch The People's Court? Is it really so bad if I watch something I like in the other room? Hey, I come home after work- I'm not at the bar. I'm not out drinking, gambling or chasing other women. Ladies- Is it so bad to be in the other room? She's really mad at me! I think it's a double standard.

I dunno!

We have one TV - my old Zenith - but we both spend more time reading than watching it. Neither of us care for "reality tv" or sports, so that's okay. I was blown away when my husband started watching The OC - it's a soap opera! But I'll watch it with him now. We will watch CSI, 24, NYPD Blue, Law & Order, some of the news shows and PBS if the reception is good. But none consistently. We only have ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX & sometimes PBS. It sounds like a lot of TV, but we usually are reading.

I normally take that as a sign of sanity.

All are good suggestions David. I doubt any of them will rank higher than Survivor in my spouse's eyes. I'll really try the family game night thing. She can say no to me easily, but I doubt she'd do so to our son. Great input, as usual!
